Parameter Measurement Methods For Hydraulic Systems

Feb 03, 2026

To measure pressure, first tighten the hose connector of the testing circuit to the threaded interface of the double ball valve tee. Open ball valve 2, close relief valve 3, and cut off the return oil passage. The pressure value at the measured point (the actual working pressure of the system) can then be directly read from the pressure gauge.

To measure flow rate and temperature, slowly loosen the handle of relief valve 7, then close ball valve 1. Readjust relief valve 7 until the reading on pressure gauge 4 is the measured pressure value. The reading on flow meter 5 is then the actual flow rate at the measured point. Simultaneously, the oil temperature value will be displayed on thermometer 6.

To measure rotational speed (velocity), the rotational speed or velocity of any pump, motor, or cylinder depends only on two factors: flow rate and its own geometry (displacement or area). Therefore, simply measure the output flow rate of the motor or cylinder (input flow rate for pumps), and divide it by its displacement or area to obtain the rotational speed or velocity value.
