How To Clean Hydraulic Valve Groups

Feb 20, 2026

In the maintenance of hydraulic valves, disassembly and cleaning are the first steps. During actual use of hydraulic equipment, hydraulic oil contamination can lead to oil sludge sedimentation or particulate impurities, all of which can cause hydraulic valve malfunctions. Disassembly and cleaning usually resolve these issues, restoring the hydraulic valve's functionality. The disassembly and cleaning of hydraulic valves mainly includes the following five aspects:

(1) Disassembly. Although most parts of a hydraulic valve are connected by bolts, the valve is designed to be non-disassembly oriented. Forcibly disassembling it without specialized equipment or expertise can damage the valve. Therefore, maintenance personnel should understand the hydraulic valve structure and the connection methods between its parts before disassembly, and record the positional relationships between different parts during the disassembly process.

(2) Inspection and Cleaning. Inspect the valve body and valve core, observing the amount of dirt deposited. Without damaging the working surface, use a brush, cotton yarn, and a non-metallic scraper to remove concentrated dirt.

(3) Rough Cleaning. Place the valve core and body on the cleaning tank tray and heat and soak them. Pass compressed air through the bottom of the cleaning tank, using the agitation effect of the air bubbles to remove residual dirt. Ultrasonic cleaning can be performed if conditions permit.

(4) Fine Cleaning. First, perform high-pressure positioning cleaning with cleaning fluid, then dry with hot air. If the company has the resources, existing cleaning agents can be selected. In some special cases, organic cleaning agents, such as gasoline and diesel, can also be used.

(5) Assembly. Assemble according to the hydraulic valve diagram or the assembly relationships of the parts recorded during disassembly. Care should be taken during assembly to prevent damage to the parts. Some original sealing materials are easily damaged during actual disassembly, so they should be replaced during assembly.
